Hi everybody...here is finally our new challenge and this time it will be all about ALTER EGO'S..

We where thinking about how Amelie would play tricks on the grocer to avenge the young men who worked for him. That is when we saw her in her mask and cape. So we thought about an alter ego---like Clark Kent is Superman. Or Bruce Waine is Batman. It doesn't have to be a super hero but another version of yourself...could be good or even naughty

Amélie Poulin is by far my favorite of all. I love it's naive side and deep colors . This movie makes me appreciate the simple pleasures of life and reminds me to live the present moment at 100%. I listen regularly to the original soundtrack when I do scrapbooking. I love the music of Yann Tiersen.

She then cut them up to make one last, handmade love letter to brighten the woman's spirits. This is your inspiration for Challenge 11. Use letter cut from different places for your title, make your OWN handmade letter for your project, or even just cut your journaling into strips. Get creative...there are lots of ideas that can be sparked from this scene in the movie. Challenge 10+our new girls!

Whaaaaaaa crazy busy as alway's!!And the worst of it all...I didn't have internet connection!!!I was going crazy!!I was planning to post 2 day's ago since i kinda like to kick off the new challenge on the 10th of each of month.Unfortunately there was some delay...but from now on our challenge goes up on the 10th. :)

I live in South west of France in Lacanau <http://www.lacanau.com/webcams.htm> a city near the ocean, with my husband and my daughter Zoe … my two dogs and my cat !!! lot of people in this house :-) .I began scrapbooking since December 2004.And I love photography, especially “cheap photography”, I have a lomo with color flash and filters and an old folding camera date from 50’S … I very much love the results with these cameras.
I design stamps for “Katzelkraft” and collaborate to create a line of paper kraft with “la compagnie du kraft.”Sorry for this short bio but writing in English is not easy for me but I am working on it.

A mix with Freestyle and Mixed Media ... It's my style :-)At first, I did traditional scrapping, and then I did more freestyle and mixed media. Now I do a mix of all techniques with MY photos or vintage photos and specially "les baigneuses".

I am a lover of all things quirky.I love to sew but I am not very good at it.I have been scrapbooking for 8 years and seriously love it.I collect junk.I believe chocolate is the food of the gods.I am a passionate yet inconsistant mother.I married the right man.I really think there is nothing better than a strong cup of good coffee and an interesting book.I like to plan trips even if I know I won't be able to go.I dislike nail polish on my finger nails.I love to sleep but never get more than six hours.Turning 40 was awesome!

Oh I think basically random.I love to just do what I feel. My favorite styles to admire are simple and vintage but I rarely create that way.

In so many ways. The colors, the wonkiness of the characters. I liked Amelie's shyness, her rock skipping.I really felt that this was a story that represents magic in little things...in simple kindness and imperfection. It is a movie that leaves me content and hopeful.

Hello, everyone! Sorry the callenge is so late this month. I'm sure you all know how it is...life just gets really crazy sometimes! Speaking of life being crazy, two of our Amelie girls have had to say goodbye. Lindsay and Lucy, we'll miss you and all the inspiration you brought to the challenges. Best of luck to both of you.

This month the challenge is a little different. We want you to make a project or layout using the Amelie colors (red, green, and yellow), and also integrate some Amelie storyboards. It has been a really really busy month.And at the moment it still is!Some of our Amelie girls are in the middle of moving and one of them was lucky enough to go on a trip to New Zealand...So unfortunately not everyone is playing this time,but they will be joining us again on the next challenge.

Amelie often wondered about random things and liked to ask herself silly little questions... Some of them a little more risque than others, of course! So, that is our new challenge. What kind of random, crazy things do YOU wonder about? It could be something simple, like wondering how many people are standing in line at a grocery store right now, or something silly, like wondering why your dog's feet smell like cornchips. Come up with one thought, or a whole list, and build a layout around it. Of course, we all remember the enchanting scene in "Amelie" where Amelie uses the arrows to direct Nino on his quest to find her, right?Well, that's going to be our next challenge! Only, our spin is this...Use the concept of a map on your layouts/projects and don't forget to include some arrows! You can do all sorts of things with this...a treasure map, directions, a map of places you've traveled,include a portion of a map, etc. Basically, let your imagination run wild with ideas, as long as the basis has something to do with a map!And as we mentioned, don't forget the arrows! This can be one arrow, 2 arrows, as many arrows as you'd like.

Born and raised in California, but never a "Californian"; I escaped in 2001, rail-bound for Seattle where I met my wonderfully geeky hubby. Since then, our work has taken us all over the US, Japan and Europe. Currently we're living in an old stone farmhouse in central France with our 2 small dogs and far, far too many spiders for my liking... but I really can't complain. Work-wise, I can typically be found whipping up identity packages and interfaces for various projects, as well as designing scrapbook product for Prima.

I can try! Let's see... I guess it's easiest to sum things up with adjectives like "bold", "graphic" and "edgy", but I really like to think of my work as dynamic... undulating with life's joys & challenges.

How does Amelie inspire you?
Visually, the film is so full of inspiration - it's hard to turn away. The oversaturated hues and luscious textures are absolutely magnetic for me as a graphic artist. The closer I study this film, the more I appreciate Jeunet's flawless execution of the principles I follow religiously in my own work; contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. Sigh. Pure genius.

Only that I'm SO incredibly stoked to be a part of this amazing team!! I think Amelie is a film that sings to so many different people on so many levels, and I'm confident in its ability to conjure up the artist in anyone. ^_^

Hello, my name is Candice Reszko, Candy or Kansas for short. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV where I still reside but where my heart truely longs to be is in the country living life style. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with God, spending time with my hubby of almost 7 years and our two little ones, drawing, singing, writing, and ofcourse scrapbooking! Whew! My style is very urban I think. I love splatters and altering found items to use on my pages. I just love making stuff so if that's a style, then that's what mine is :)

Amelie's vivid colors are amazing and so inspiring. I LOVE the combinations of pattern and colors. It's such a beautiful eye candy movie to watch and admire.

"Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain"

The movie "The fabulous destiny of Amélie Poulain" takes place in its majority at the neighborhood of Montmartre, in Paris, where we can find some of the places which the wonderful movie photography transforms into pure magic. The first mandatory stop is in the "Cafe des Deux Moulains" that is on Lepic, 15, right on the corner.

This place has almost the exact environment that is shown in the movie, even though the tobacco shop which Georgette felt suffocated is not there. It is possible to observe the predominance of the colors yellow and red, to enter in the restroom and imagine the place where Georgette and Joseph made love, besides appreciating two posters of the movie and some photos in Polaroid with the gnome’s trips, held behind the coffee counter.
Tourists are welcome in the place and there are no problems in taking pictures. Moreover, the food is excellent and they make a wonderful "crème brulée" for you to appreciate; one of Amélie’s small pleasures that was to break the hard topping of melted sugar from the sweet, very cutely dessert. Going through Lepic street, turning the first street on the right, go straight on rue des Abesses (Abesses's street) and rue de la Vieuville (Vieuville’s street) till the Abesse subway station from the Paris subway, that appears sometimes in the film and has one of the remaining Art Nouveau metro entrances. The subway station has a lot of staircases, full with decorated walls and paintings from the district of Montmartre, what makes it a pretty pleasant journey.
That was the place where Amélie meets the blind man. You can imagine his transcendence experience as Amélie describes the mouthwatering sights of the bustling market on rue Lamarck until you reach the beautiful metro station Lamarck-Caulaincourt with the double staircase. marck. Next, by the street of Trois Fréres and rue Gabrielle, we reach the grocery’s store named "Au Marche de la butte" and Collignon’s house. Although there is no grain bag at the door that we can sink our hands in and appreciate their textures, which was another pleasure from Amélie, you may buy some post cards and posters from the movie that are sold there in the grocery shop.
Keep climbing the up hills of Montmartre until you arrive at the "Sacre Coeur" Catedral and at the corner of Saint Michel, from where we can enter into the park scenario from the love meetings between Amélie and Nino, where she raised an amazing atmosphere of mystery and drew seven blue arrows on the floor. Unfortunately, there is no sign of the phone booth, but the place holds a very beautiful view from Paris and a carrousel that is full of charm: that is, a perfect place to feel the atmosphere of the movie. It is also possible to take a look at Gare du Nord, one of the train stations that appears in the film and where Amélie goes to her father’s house and also at Gare de l’Est railway station where Nino loses his collection book of automatic photos and where Amélie and Nino finally discover the secret of the photo-machine. It is even possible to appreciate the Channel of Saint Martin, where Amélie throws rocks into the water and you can have an idea of how genius the photography of the movie is!
Do not forget, finally, to visit one of the booths of automatic photos that are the essence of the film! Au revoir!

In the movie,Amelie finds an album with repaired photobooth pictures.Her crush collects photobooth pictures that have been teared and thrown away.He repairs them and put them all in to albums.Inspired by these teared pictures,we wanted to use them for our next challenge.So go ahead and tear those pictures into pieces!Or just ripp of a piece of the picture,it's up to you.Just make sure you also use the color red on your layout!The deadline is the 21th of July. Artist Feature - El Lohse

Hello all! How have you been? Hopefully feeling inspired, like the rest of us here at Inspired by Amelie!

As scrapbookers, paper artists, and all around crafty people, we're all here because of our shared love for this lovely little movie. But, did you know we're not the only ones taking inspiration from "Amelie"? That's right, and right now I'd like to introduce you to one artist extraodinaire bringing "Amelie" to life on canvas, El Lohse.I was taken by El's work immediately upon discovering it. Like with the movie, there is a certain indistinguishable charm in all of her pieces and this includes not only her "Ode to Amelie" series, but all of her others as well. The colors, style, ability to capture scenes from pop culture so wonderfully...it's magic. El currently sells prints of her pieces (most in limited edition) in her Etsy shop, Elloh.

Here is a little bit about her, in her own words...

Hello, my name is El, short for Ellen, Lohse. I am an illustrator in Philadelphia, with a love of storytelling, traveling, humor, color (including black and white movies) and pop culture. Portraits of people, places and things, both in words and visually as a painting or drawing is a passion of mine. Although life can be on the glass half empty side of things at times, I prefer my work to be always half full, with someone just about to add some ice, a lemon wedge, straw and paper umbrella to it, with a waiter waiting to pour you a refill.
1. What about "Amelie" inspires you most? Everything. The cinematography and saturated color. Paris. The French language (although I rely on the subtitles). Nino and his amazing photobooth scrapbook. The likes and dislikes of all the characters. Traveling gnomes! The magical storytelling accompanied by the lovely musical score. Did I mention Paris?! Her neighbor the painter. The character Amelie and her good deed secret agent ways. And yes, the happy ending.

2. How do you choose which scenes in "Amelie" to depict in your pieces? It's so difficult! I have a list of scenes just waiting to be finished. My first piece dealt with her childhood. I loved the way the film captured Amelie's younger years. It was filled with so many little quirks and details in such a short time. The scene where she is checking the heartbeat of her imaginary monster friend reminded me of when I was little, so much, I just had to draw my interpretation of it. I'm working on the Zorro scene of Amelie in the photobooth along with the scene where she guides the blind man down the street to the train depot, describing the visuals to him as they walk. It reminds me of my grandmother, Helen, who passed away when I was 8. She was blind. Whenever I watch that scene I think of how much fun it would've been to be her guide. Oh and I plan on doing another gnome portrait (with Amelie and her Dad) because ever since watching the cartoon 'David the Gnome' when I was younger I've loved them. Oh and a tshirt design too. Can we add a few more hours in the day? please? 3. If you could be Amelie for a day, what would you do? It would be a usual, wonderful day. Have a caffé with Nino before he goes to the area photobooths to repair them (his new job given to him by the converse wearing former repairman). He loves it because he can go to more booths each day and collect even more photos for an exhibition he's having of his work in Amelie's (my) cafe. Well, the one I used to work at. I now opened the 'Lady Di Good Deed Agency'. People hire me, Amelie, to be their secret agent good doer. It is tiring, but rewarding work. I take a break reading a letter from my father who is on Safari. He has included a postcard for me to give to his gnome at home. I visit my painter friend to give him another tape I made for him, and to see his new work. He is also having an exhibit with Nino. One of the scenes I videotaped is of the carousel near the Sacré-Coeur. He plans on painting it now. Renoir can wait. I leave him to his work and go back home for the evening filled with tea, book reading, movie watching and lastly dreaming of what the next day may bring.

4. If you could describe "Amelie" in 3 words, what would they be? good-deed (we'll pretend it's one word ;)) secret agent

5. Do you own your own garden gnome? Yes. Near a cactus. Actually I don't own a cactus. I sadly don't have a green thumb, unless I am painting with green paint.A big thanks to El for taking the time to speak with us and letting us share her amazing talent with you all!

Skipping stones tutorial

Our designer Cindy made a beautiful pair of skipping stones for our first challenge.Now she is going to show us how to make them,by using a step by step tutorial.We would love to see your take on this,so please share the links in the comment section.We might even have a cute prize for you...

materials:

-Clip art from magazine or book

-polished stones

-gel medium

-gloss varnish

tools:

-medium camel hair brush (soft bristle)

-general purpose brush

-scissors

misc:

- paint for embellishment

Hold clip art and stone against a lamp. The stones silhouette will aid you in positioning your clip art.

Once positioned, place clip art and stone down on a surface and trace around the shape of the rock for a cutting guide.

Cut along the tracing.

Brush gel medium or glue to the back of your clip art. I chose gel medium because it's flexible, ready to brush on and doesn't need to be diluted.

Place clip art on stone and adhere. Use your fingers to gently smooth out creases and air bubbles under the paper. Paint embellishments or add more layers using the same method.

To varnish gently rotate the varnish bottle to mix the lacquer. Avoid shaking since this will create a multitude of air bubbles. Pour varnish into a separate container and use a flat tipped, soft bristle brush to apply varnish. Scrape the bristles against an edge between coats to eliminate air bubbles on the finish. Allow to dry and apply at least 5 coats for a tight seal.

Amélie is a story about a girl named Amélie whose childhood was suppressed by her Father's mistaken concerns of a heart defect. With these concerns Amélie gets hardly any real life contact with other people. This leads Amélie to resort to her own fantastical world and dreams of love and beauty. She later on becomes a young woman and moves to the central part of Paris as a waitress. After finding a lost treasure belonging to the former occupant of her apartment, she decides to return it to him. After seeing his reaction and his new found perspective - she decides to devote her life to the people around her. Such as, her father who is obsessed with his garden-gnome, a failed writer, a hypochondriac, a man who stalks his ex girlfriends, the "ghost", a suppressed young soul, the love of her life and a man whose bones are as brittle as glass. But after consuming herself with these escapades - she finds out that she is disregarding her own life and damaging her quest for love. Amélie then discovers she must become more aggressive and take a hold of her life and capture the beauty of love she has always dreamed of.

When I started scrapbooking almost 3 years ago, I always tend to use atleast 3 different patterned papers on a page. And I completely filled the page with paper and products, layer by layer. I guess I´m still a layer-girl, but I like to have alot of white space on the page these days. I love decorations and are always hunting for new and exiting products. Love non-traditional items, such as playing cards, pages from old books and so on. I think my style is kind of colorful and playful!

I love the feeling from the whole movie. The colors, the beautiful buildings, the photos and the story. Everything blends together to a perfect source of inspiration!

I’m 36 years old and I live in Brazil, with my husband Flávio and my daughter Bebel.I’m a scrap addicted which means I see artistic possibilities over everything around me. How does Amelie inspire you?
The story is pure magic, in fact, it is a fairy tale and it’s exactly the language I pursue in my work.I specially love all the blossoming of the small to the magnificent (the little daily details in which she pays attention).And I`m also inspired by the way Amelie creates mysteries for others because I love putting mysterious details in my Lo’s. They’re Art; they’re supposed to reveal the richness of the world I see!

The first thing that comes to my mind whenever I think about the movie is the lawn gnome which Amelie, wanting to make her father happy, took it out off his house, just to take pictures of the gnome in different places around the world and send them to her father. This way, she ended up making him decide to travel and get to know the world. My LO shows the places around the world where I’ve been to. It has a Scenic Route paper base, on which I added a World Traveler by College Press paper that was smashed and glued with 3-D tape. I added a copy of my passport and a photo booth picture. Next, I added some tags about the places I’ve traveled to, where have been tagged by a lawn gnome.

I was inspired by the photo booth pictures in Amelie. I love how they're small and sequential and how they capture a perfect little snippet of time. I take pictures with my webcam and often print them so they look like photo booth pictures--I love the imperfection of them and how they capture a moment that wouldn't have otherwise been captured.

How does Amelie inspire you?

I own a grand total of three DVDs. The first one I bought was Amelie. What’s not to love about this movie? From start to finish there is always something to marvel at whether it is in the vintage appeal of the production design, the delightfully insightful screenplay, the patiently keen direction of Jean-Pierre Jeunet or the captivating performances by all of the actors. The character of Amelie herself makes me cheer as her playful acts of kindness spread joy and her deliberate sense of justice brings satisfaction. I believe that we all have a bit of Amelie in each of us…

This is a collage introducing myself and featuring altered skipping stones. The stones were inspired by Amelie's trip to the canal where she spends time alone and skips the rocks into the water.The stones were easy to make. Just use clip art that fits, a gel medium to adhere the paper and a few coats of varnish with a medium sized soft bristle brush for a glassy finish.The premise is to alter the stone’s surface with wishes, meditations, sacred designs or playful images and to give them to a child, friend or family member (or even yourself) as a gift. What they choose to do with the stones is up to their discretion but wouldn't it be wonderful to go to a park together and skip them across a pond while making wishes?I chose the great ladies of entertainment for my muses. Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I like tall soya vanilla lates, books, pretty music, staying up late and getting up later. I tend to scream at the t.v alot, crave toast beetroot sandwiches, wear earplugs to bed, and quote will ferrell alot. I use scrapbooking/journalling as a form of therapy. I advocate eating cupcakes for breakfast, dancing like nobody is watching, and singing at the top of your lungs.

Can you describe your style?

No. Quite frankly. Its colourful yet subdued, broken but dreaming, specific but random, comical but serious.

How does Amelie inspire you?

Oh, the colour, the images, the music, the narration/journalling. Ooooooh, the all of it!

On the film dvd start up menu, there is a photo that has had stars, what appears to be bleach stained on to the top. The same as on most of the advertising adverts, and the DVD cover. This was the motivation for the star theme on the page. I stuck star stickers randomly to the top of the LO, and then painted the page with a water colour green. When the paint was relatively dry I pulled the stars away, and it left the paper with the star outline. VERY cool technique. You could build up layers and layers of stars, all different colours and sizes.
My journalling was inspired from the beginning narration, when each character is introduced and their dislikes and likes are mentioned. I love original journalling ideas, this is another reason I love Amelie - it is just full of them!

I'm a 26-year-old full time scrapbooker! I love in the south of france and travel a lot to teach scrapbook and mixed media classes. One of my favorite things about teaching classes is to spend time with my students and make new friends! I'm a designer for Rouge de Garance, American Crafts, Prima, ScrapinStyle TV, A Muse Artstamps, and Autour du Papier (France).

Can you describe your style?

I LOVE colors! but how could I define my style? It's boundaries-less, I hate rules, I just wanna do what I wanna do, I wanna play with colors, textures, paints and get messy, even though I sometimes end up with a very clean, simple layout. :)I'd say I'm more of a Freestyler!

How does Amelie inspire you?

Oh my gosh! this movie has totally changed my life! Like, the music, the colors, the emotion, the feelings, the poetry, every little details in this movie inspires me to create, and inspire me to just live :)my favorite part of the movie : when Amelie talks to the blind guy and walks along with him, holding him by his arm. Man! I cry everytime I see this scene, not because it's sad, but because it's BEAUTIFUL! :)

The first thing that pops into my mind when I think about Amelie is Montmartre. I'm lucky enough to be able to go to Paris every two months, to teach my scrapbook classes there, and I always try to spend at least an afternoon walking around Montmartre. Montmartre is where the movie was filmed and you can definitely feel the movie atmosphere there. I once went to the café where Amelie works! It is still there! And you can actually see the gnome, standing on the bar! :)
